| HiBrasil was established to facilitate penetration of the ANZ market by the top-end of Brazilian furniture and housewares products. Please read the 'About' page on this website which provides a thumbnail of the business plan for the HiBrasail concept.
In nearly two years of developing this project, we have achieved
- allocation of export market development funding budget specifically for the Australian market from the Brazilian government to support their furniture producers who wish to tackle this market
- suppport from several of the (mainly state based) furniture industry associations (Movergs, FIERGS, etc) for penetration of the ANZ market, including their and our joint efforts to sell the idea of a co-operative venture (groupo)
- a contract with Australia Exhibitions & Conferences P/L for payment of a commission on all exhibition space taken by Brazilian exhibitors at the two major Australian furniture fairs
- delveopment of liaison and lobbying links with industry and government in the major industrialised states of Sao Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina
- PR / media relations program to educate producers and public in the above states on the HiBrasil project
- generation of presentation materials to explain the value of the potential ANZ market
- generation of websites in Portuguese and English
- initiation of imports of samples of Basso solid hardwood doors and windows, and of Ladrilhos Hidraulicos de Pelotas (hydraulic floor tiles) - see here.
- establishment of initial agreements on several further agency lines to be put into effect once a suitable Australian operation is established and funded
The HiBrasil concept continues to display great promise, but development of the project has been far slower than anticipated, and strategic reorientation is required. The reasons for the delays and proposed changes are basically -
- aprehension on the part of Brazilian manufacturers about working together with those against whom they compete in their domestic markets (despite the existence of already three successful 'grupos' to tackle the Mexican and USA markets)
- the unfortunate national characteristic of dishonesty in business dealings endemic in Brazil
- the difficulty and time-lag involved in accessing appropriate Ministers of Government to lobby for policy support etc
- a lack of credibility on the part of HiBRasil due to not having a track record of successful importation and selling of similar products
- lack of a credible Australian domestic team and infrastructure
- exhaustion of funding for the project
HiBrasil is seeking well skilled and appropriately experienced executives to people this start-up venture. It is expected that this offer will appeal to early retirees and similar seeking to return to a productive and rewarding occupation in the workplace, at a level of executive directoral participation and equityholding.
The knowledge / skills / experience we need are in the areas of
- general management / administration
- import / export
- retail
- furniture / housewares
- finance / capital raising
- operations / logistics / infrastructure management
- marketing / promotions
A knowledge of and fondness for Brazil, its people and products, would be an advantage, as would ability to speak Portuguese, but these are not essentials.
Participation will be as equity partners and during the set-up period partners should be self supporting. Initialy the venture sill offer support to partners in the form of a retainer only, if required; once the venture is capitalised, or trading in the black, suitable salary packages will be negotiated with partners. Ultimately participants are expected to contribute 'sweat equity' up front in anticipation of part ownership of the venture - and sharing in its returns - downstream.
Persons interested in participating should initially study the content of this website. Once aware of the HiBrasil concept, please email a concise CV or resume to hugh@hibrasil.biz , together with a cover letter presenting those arguments that support your candidature. All applications will be acknowledged.
Please - no phone applications; but if you have a particular question or concern, please call 0401 089 322 during normal office hours.
Thank you -
