In the Waterfall Gorges country there are creeks,
rock pools, lakes, fast and slow-flowing rivers and a long and varied Pacific
Ocean coastline - every kind of water a fisherman could want.
Waterfall Gorges Adventure Holidays offers you Fishtrek, a six-day fishing exextravaganza that you will remember all of your life. |
| Your Fishtrek group will set our from Armidale
shortly after first light on Monday morning. You will be brought by 4 x
4 to the first waterbody in Oxley Wild Rivers National Park where fishing
teams will be made up - both for companionship and safety. Teams will be
allocated specific locations on each waterbody of adequate dimensions so
that teams and individuals do not intrude on each other of interfere with
each others' fishing.
All of your gear that is not essential during the day will be carried in the support vehicle which will meet the group each afternoon, bringing food and drink, other supplies and camping gear. Daily rations will be issued every morning - snacks for 'elevenses' and afternoon tea, and a substantial and inviting lunch pack. The exact itinerary of your Fishtrek cannot be foretold; our Group Leaders keep themselves informed of known fish activity and water conditions in the creeks, lakes and rivers of the region, and itineraries are decided at the start of each day on the basis of conditions at the time - and safety! You will find that our Group Leaders are a wonderful source of knowledge about flies, spinners, hooks, rods, lines, other gear and fish lore - ask them anything! However, each day will have a similar basic pattern - rising before sunup, you will be offered a hearty and sustaining breakfast, prepared by Chuck-wagon Charlie You will be able to wet your hook both before, during and after brekkie, when you will lend a hand to break camp and stow the gear on the support vehicle. After a few hours on that water, the group will be guided or driven to the next selected location; and so throughout each day, moving regularly to fish the waters that are best for different times of day and seasons. We hope to ensure that your Fishtrek gives you ample time and opportunity to fish in as many different waters and conditions as possible, and to experience and enjoy the changing environment of the bush as you descend from the elevated Tablelands through the gorges and rainforest to the sea.. Camp for the night is usually made about 4.30 pm; there you will find the support vehicle with your personal gear, driven by Chuck-wagon Charlie, your gourmet cook, who will have spent the afternoon setting up his field kitchen and preparing a delicious - and hearty - dinner, which is usually served at about 6.30 pm. Early, you say? Hardly - you will have been up since dawn, and you will be physically exhausted from your exertions on the water in the fresh air. After enjoying your dinner - washed down with premium Australian wines - on the first few evenings you will most likely want to 'put your head down' very shortly after! As you get used to the level of exertion required, in the fresh air, you will quickly get fit and be able to stay awake longer into the evening. The trek ends at the sea, on Saturday morning. There you can swim, surf or fish until the support vehicle collects you to drop you off either at the local airport or at Coffs Harbour by noon - your luggage will be in the support vehicle all the way - or to bring you back to Armidale by about 2.30 pm. |
| To find new friendships - kindred spirits
